About this tool
Record your screen in the browser with nothing to install. Your browser asks whether to capture the whole screen, a window or a tab, and if you enable both system sound and the microphone the two are mixed into a single track. Turn on the webcam and it sits in the bottom-right corner, which is all a lecture or demo video needs. Nothing is uploaded - the recording stays in this tab.
How to use
- Pick a format and quality, then enable the audio sources and webcam you need.
- Press Start recording and choose what to capture in the browser dialog.
- While recording you see a timer and can pause and resume.
- Press Stop and a preview appears, ready to download.
Frequently asked questions
- System sound is not being recorded.
- You have to allow audio sharing in the picker dialog. Chrome shows a Share audio checkbox when you select a tab or the whole screen, but it does not appear at all when you pick an individual window. Some Linux setups cannot capture system audio at all.
- Can I record system sound and the microphone together?
- Yes. Simply adding both as tracks would not work, though - a recorder stores only one audio track. This tool routes both through an audio mixer into a single track, so you hear both.
- Can I save as MP4?
- Only where the browser supports it. Recent Chrome, Edge and Safari do; elsewhere the option is shown as unavailable. WEBM works almost everywhere and gives better quality per megabyte. If your editor cannot read WEBM, convert it with the video converter.
- What if I press the browser Stop sharing button?
- The recording ends too and the result appears. Without handling that, the share would stop while the recorder kept running, quietly capturing a frozen frame - something you would only discover after finishing.
- How long can I record?
- As long as memory allows. The recording accumulates in tab memory, so it gets heavier as it grows; past ten minutes it is safer to record in parts. Closing or reloading the tab loses it, so download as soon as you stop.
Recordings are never uploaded and exist only in this tab memory, so reloading or closing the tab loses them. iOS Safari does not support screen capture - on an iPhone use the Screen Recording control in Control Centre. Recording and distributing someone else screen or copyrighted material can have legal consequences.
