About this tool

Pick a section on the waveform and cut it out. Because you can see where the sound swells, grabbing just the chorus or trimming silence off the ends is easy. There are 15, 30 and 40 second presets for making ringtones, and a fade-out so the clip does not end abruptly.

How to use

  1. Load an audio or video file and the waveform appears.
  2. Drag the blue region, or pull its edges, to choose what to keep.
  3. Use Play selection to check it, and turn on fade in or out if you want.
  4. Press Trim, listen to the result and download it.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a ringtone be?
Around 30 seconds is plenty. iPhone ringtones cannot exceed 40 seconds, and Android setups usually land in the same range. Pressing the 30-second preset selects 30 seconds from your current start point.
Why is fade-out on by default?
Because cutting mid-song ends the sound abruptly, which is jarring. Easing the last 1.5 seconds down sounds far more natural. If you cut at a point where the track already ends, you can turn it off.
Can I load a video?
Yes. The picture is discarded and only the audio is trimmed and exported as MP3.
The result sounds worse than the source.
You are re-compressing already-compressed audio into MP3. At 192kbps the difference is usually hard to hear, but if the source was lossless there is a real loss. If you plan to keep editing, extract WAV first with the audio extractor.

Processing happens entirely in your browser and the file is never uploaded. Output is MP3 at 192kbps. Cutting and distributing copyrighted audio can have legal consequences. The first run has to fetch the processor (about 32MB).
