About this tool

Check that your camera actually works before a video call starts. Turn the camera on and you get a live preview with the resolution and frame rate the camera really delivered shown on top. If you have several cameras you can switch between them and compare, and you can save any moment as a PNG. The video plays only inside your browser and is never uploaded anywhere.

How to use

  1. Pick a resolution, press Turn camera on and allow the permission prompt your browser shows.
  2. Read the actual resolution and frame rate in the badge at the top left of the preview.
  3. If you have more than one camera, switch between them to see which looks best.
  4. Press Save snapshot to download the current frame as a PNG file.

Frequently asked questions

I denied permission by accident and it never asks again.
The browser remembers the refusal. Click the padlock next to the address bar, set Camera to Allow and reload the page - the prompt comes back.
I chose Full HD but it reports 1280x720.
If the camera cannot do the mode you asked for, the browser picks the closest one it can. The number shown is close to the best this camera can actually produce.
It says another program is using the camera.
A video-call app or another browser tab is holding the device. Meeting windows left running in the background are the usual culprit, so close them all and try again.
The camera indicator light stays on.
This tool stops the camera track the moment you leave the page. If the light is still on, another tab or program is using the camera.

This tool can only reach cameras the browser is allowed to see. If the camera is blocked at the operating-system level or a physical shutter is closed, you get a black picture here too - in that case check your system settings and the device itself.
