About this tool

Settle a shared expense among a group. Enter each person's name and how much they paid, and this splits the total evenly to find each person's fair share, then works out who should send how much to whom using the fewest possible transfers. Share the result as a link so everyone sees the same numbers.

How to use

  1. Enter each participant's name (leave blank and it fills in as "Person 1" and so on).
  2. Enter how much each person paid. Anyone who paid nothing stays at 0.
  3. Use "+ Add person" if you need more participants.
  4. Check who should send how much to whom, then share the link with "Share settlement."

Frequently asked questions

How is each person's share calculated?
The total of everything everyone paid is divided by the number of participants to get the per-person share. Each person's (amount paid minus share) tells you whether they are owed money or owe money.
Why does not everyone pay everyone else?
Settlement is complete as soon as those who paid less send the difference to those who paid more, so this calculator pairs people up to minimize the number of transfers needed. Even with three or more people, it usually resolves in one or two transfers.
How do others see the same settlement?
Tapping "Share settlement" creates a link that carries the names and amounts. Anyone who opens that link sees the identical result โ€” the data lives in the URL itself, with no server account involved.
Are the names and amounts I enter stored on a server?
The calculation itself runs in your browser and is never sent to a server. However, once you create a share link, the names and amounts are embedded directly in that URL, so avoid sharing it with people you do not want to see the details.

This assumes an even split among participants. It does not account for different portions of a shared bill (like someone ordering more) โ€” adjust the amounts you enter to handle those cases manually.
